it is really an embrace in reality? the movement of the right hand of Shiomitsu in the beginning of the movement suggests otherwise?

Don't know. Maybe Shiomitsu was feeling differently with that partner. As I said before, I never met a kihon kumite partner with more momentum then he demonstrated. Perhaps in my case he was reflecting my own aggressiveness.

Could you please define momentum? I use the same word in my dojo but perhaps we have different definitions.

Momentum is in part, the mass of a object. It is in part a function of speed, and weight upon impact. The smaller person needs to move faster to equal the mass of a bigger person. However in this case, I was thinking of Shiomitsu's "apparent" mass, as he gave me the feeling of having enormous momentum, perhaps even more then is scientifically accurate.

I used a similar technique for one of my own ippons in my grading. We have to come up with 6 of our own, 2 punch, 2 front kick, 2 round kick.
What I found when practising this technique is you have to close the opponent down rather quickly as they still have a reverse punch they could throw.

Hi Andy, Good point, did you notice that Shiomitsu steps on the foot of his opponent in the process of the throw? I wondered if that was intentional, or by accident.

I must admit, I never noticed that first time around. Interestingly, he does seem to look down, as if looking for the foot?
