All Wado Karate Forum

I have reading threads from the other martial sites as this one when you all moved for along time but never posted. I do a have a question if you gents would be kind enough to answer. I will have more questions later but in the mean time.

First a little background and please no heckling. I’m from Canada and yes .. you guessed it … Shintani. Now before you scorn me I am taking great steps to correct all the wonderful wrongness. I ordered the complete set of books and DVDs from Sensei Roberto Danubio and have been very enlightened. Of course other reference material recommended would greatly appreciated. Current rank at blue with brown on the way. I also hold a 1st degree in Kempo.

You all seem to know more of the history behind Wado Ryu, more than what one can collect from a wikka journey. Other than the technical side (which I am beginning to understand on my own little by little) what is the huge rift between Shintani and the rest of the Wado Community? When ever I ask here I get a few shrugs and vague answers.

This is mostly to fill a curiosity and maybe to understand why we are so different.

I'm not aware of any details regarding Shintani group, but I think you can find some stuff on the old AKF forum. Perhaps other here are willing to shed some light.

Welcome to the forum. I will be the first to admit that my knowledge of the Shintani group is based solely on what I have seen on Youtube. I dont just see bad wado (or indeed no wado technique), I see bad karate technique in its entireity. I'm sure there are some in the group who are very capable but I've not seen them yet. The kata's are laughable at best and a travesty at worse. If you really want to learn Wado with any integrity leave your dojo and find a bone fide wado sensei, preferably from one of the 3 main groups. You seem to realise this having bought DVD's and making the journey yourself and having a questioning mind. So dont waste your money at a Shintani dojo, it will eventually leave a very sour taste in your mouth. Thats my advice for what its worth. Good luck

And I think shep was being nice. There is lot to be said for an honest answer and one I can respect and understand. It is true that the Wado is missing. The disappointing part is where I am located there is no group that has a bone fide Sensei. Closest group is over 1000 km away. But, and there is always a but. The Dojo I train at is almost an outcast in the whole organization because of the history of the lead instructors who have not let most of flaws/difference corrupt the nature of Wado Karate. There are some great points and like shep said there are bad ones. I was given full permission to study and change but to bring the differences up as I grasp them.

I’m very sure I will a lot of questions coming. So thanks in advance. First goal is video and review the differences. It is much easier to see first hand when you can watch yourself.

I realize Canada is a huge. Where are you exactly?
I am assumng you got Danubio's stuff because you are interested in the Wadokai?
Between Dan Corrigan (WIKF), Alex Waithe (Wadoryu), Norma Foster (Wadokai) you can't find a dojo near you?

I am just impressed you were able to figure out that what you had was crap.
That speaks volumes about your eyesight. Most people who are new can't tell the difference. Otherwise how in the world would Shintani have gatthered over 5,000 people? Or was it 10,000? Some big number...

Shintani told me he taught Jean Claude Damme karate! Perhaps he did. What do I know...
