Training outside federation/sub group

Hello,
I am curious as to everyone's thoughts since many of the members have gone through the splits in Wado.
I am really interested in travelling and training in various wado dojo in the world. Training in one dojo (different federation but still part of one of the big 3) in particular has caused some trouble due to the head of my federation not quite liking that person. I've been "banned" for a lack of a better term from going there. Initially, I thought it was just an American thing, but it looks like it even goes as deep as the Japanese sensei.
My question is "how many people have trained elsewhere (different federation/ different sub federation) where it was basically said not to by your sensei. And would it be considered disloyal to do so?"
My concern is that my wado world will only be set in this small bubble. I want to expand and train with others who may have had more exposure to the japanese or better instructors who may teach differently. This is not to say I plan on leaving. THis is for my own personal journey.
