Why on Earth did the uchidachi throw the saya away?

My only guess would be that for that kind of demo where he would be thrown to the floor then having the saya tucked in would get in the way. Would be great to land onto it.

For this reason, many systems practice ukemi whilst wearing their weapons / saya.

Easier said than done though.
