Dear wadokas. I have historical question.
Could you tell me more about Mr. Eriguchi?
Obviously, his role in the history of Wado was significant. What kind of man ( master, manage) he was?
Probably more aware of Mr.Gusei 21.
Thanks.
Sincerely, Aslan
Sorry if my English is not good.

Nobody wants to touch this?
I only knew him when he was quite old.
He was the most powerful man in Wado history, argueably more powerful than Othsuka Sensei himself.
The fact that he held practically every political seat in the Japan karate scene shows he was a good politician and was well respected.
He also had a lot of detractors.
The Wadokai Technical committee petitioned to have him made a 9th dan but did not get enough votes. Wadokai does not have anyone higher than 8th dan at the moment.
Ohtsuka Sensei got Wado going primarily because of Eriguchi's backing.
Ohtsuka Sensei had to leave the Wadokai because he lost Eriguchi's backing. (a bit more complex than that but at the end of the day when Eriguchi pulled his support the writing was on the wall.) So I would say a case can be made that he was the most powerful man in Wado history.
He is highly respected in certain Wado circles. He presented Takagi Sensei with the name Guseikai. He took it even further with numerology and other stuff. Charted out practically a whole epistemology on Guseikai which has its origins in a buddhist sutra. The man was highly intelligent in a world filled with - how do you say - not so bright people?
Without Eriguchi Sensei Wado would not have gone as far as it did and no one alive today in the Wado world has the type of influence he exerted in the martial arts world.

Thank you very much for your answer, Gusei21
As I undestand, Eriguchi was an outstanding organizer, but he was not such outstanding instructor, as Suzuki or Arakawa. ??

I don't know.
As far as I am concerned he was always old...older than both Arakawa Sensei and Suzuki Sensei.
Never thought to ask.
But he is such a dominating presence in the history of Wado that had he not been around then there would be no place for an Arakawa or Suzuki.
We all owe Eriguchi Sensei a debt of gratitude. No Eriguchi, no Wado as we know it today. Ohtsuka Sensei might have just been another one of those talented martial artists that gets lost in the shuffle due to a lack of exposure or support.

Isn't Arakawa Sensei a ninth dan?

As I understand it, he is 9th Dan JKF.
He is not 9th Dan within the Wado-kai - I don't believe anyone is.

I took you to being polite in the typical Anglo fashion and said you believe..which connotes a possibility of uncertainty in American English as I understand it to be.
I was being definitive. I'm a programmer. I apologize if I offended you in any way....
