They must think I am mad

Post by wadoka »

In tonight's lesson we were catching large imaginary stone balls and then stopping imaginary inflatable gym balls from popping out of a swimming pool.

Most roads led to Naihanchi for some reason. Beyond me at the moment.

I told people not to take up a karate stance, but they did. I don't teach robotics but it creeps in from somewhere. Give me that dance routine training any day.

Isn't this why many karate-ka can not spar?-) I have trained with marines, and cops, who couldn't beat an old fart like me on the mat. But, off the mat, when as marines, and cops, I wouldn't stand a chance.

I guess the trick is to get people to transcend their mind set, however like most things easier said then done.

Yes, hence me trying different approaches and trying to get them to ignore any chop-socky action.

I must try hard,
I must try hard,
I must try hard,
I must try hard,
I must try hard,
I must try hard,
I must try hard...

.
 It is not possible to correct a bad technique.
 It is only possible to make the next technique better than the previous one.
 Once the mistake is made learn the lesson and move on.
 Do not carry baggage like shame or guilt or recrimination when learning the lesson.

I am curious about that first statement. Is there more context or associated text around it? Are we talking about the instance or the recurring learning process?

It is not possible to correct a bad technique - in the same way you cannot swim in the same river twice.

I think I understand. It has happened, it can't be corrected and hence the second statement.
