In watching the Formula 1 race I have heard Martin Brundle say several times when making the start of the race, when the lights are coming on, "look but do not stare". I like that.

There is a great section on vision that I think directly applies to us.

not a racer, well amature.. But I think I recall some interview with a Formula 1 Racer or the science behind it. Not sure.
Anyway. It was something like they drive so fast, if they see the next turn they already passed it. I guess any concious thought on that level of driving makes you miss the turn or crash into something or somewone. Although we can not get that kind of acceleration I guess it is similar for them to feel the tracks like we should feel the opponent, feel the kata and feel the movement. Kimochi 気持ち (yes, the same KI as in Kiai 気合, but different from KIme 決め)

Kimochi? Yes the Japanese language is what it is but sometimes a cigar is just a cigar...
Kimochi just means feeling. And yes...we do think with our heads and feel with our stomachs....or split our stomach open and think...strange Japanese people...lol... So doing kata with kimochi might be good sometimes but will only get you so far.
Doing kata using utilizing correct body connection and body movement...now that is something worthwhile in my opinion and that is the genius of a Kuroda or Otsuka Sensei. The other stuff people talk about seems to work well for people from other styles but I don't think that is what we are about if we ever want to approach what Otsuka Sensei was doing.

Just looked up some of Keith Code on YT and found his website http://www.superbikeschool.com. He appears to have created machines to function as methods focussing on parts of the act. Could not find anything on the vision stuff till now. DO you have the title of the book if there is one or any other link that will do?
