Takashima Sensei in UK

Post by wadoka »

Mr Takashima is in the UK with Shiomitsu Sensei. If you do a search on his name and Wado in Google you will come across many articles to say that he along with Suzuki Sensei and Arakawa Sensei were the trio that came to the UK at the start of the 60s.

I don't know what he is exactly going to be doing but thought it was an interesting piece of news as it is a connection to the very start of Wado here in the UK, or even the spread of Wado across the world.

It says in the article that he is a member of the JKF and JKF Wadokai technical committee?

Is he a member of both Wadokai and Wado-ryu Renmei?

[edit] I only ask this due to the Shiomitsu Sensei connection - although I guess their relationship goes back a long time.

The interview was conducted some 10 years ago (how time flies!) So I'm not sure if he's still on the technical committee. Gusei21 should know...
But in any case, JKF-Wadokai is the wadoryu branch of JKF. And neither of them is affiliated with Wadoryu Renmei.

explains about the organisations and names.

Yes, I understand that.

As I said in my edit, I asked the question as he was accompanying Shiomitsu Sensei (and that's where the Renmei comes in).

I see.
I always had the impression that Takashima was a bit agnostic about the organisations. In fact, he said in the interview:
"But even though we may be slightly different, it is fundamentally WRONG to create a new organization. Wado could potentially be a lot stronger if it remained united."
So it stands to reason that he would keep ties with all 3 organisations.

Well that's what I am thinking also - after all, Wado was originally one group.

Don't tell anyone, but I also spend time regularly with people of all 3 factions. And somehow their wado doesn't seem all that much different. ;-)

I think the connection between Suzuki, Takashima and Shiomitsu sensei may be Nichi Dai.
