Non-white Gis

I’ve been thinking about this lately & recent threads & assorted asides have spurred me to raise the question here. It’s about the question of standard (white) gis vs. alternative (black, striped, whatever) gis. I understand there are issues of personal taste here, but is there something els...

Were you professional Muay Thai figh...

Re: Training

As for how often & in which way to train, I think it all depends on where you are in your life & what you're looking for in your training. In my Muay Thai days I used to train 3-5 hours per day, 5 days per week. When preparing for fight there were runs on top of that. It was good experience ...

Re: Shodan Training

Congratulations Andy! Would you mind sharing more about your own preparation for the grading? What was most/least valuable in the end? I'm a 2nd kyu now & hope to be making similar preparations in the not too distant future.

Re: omote, ura and henka

Fair enough, oneya. As for the relationship of dance to martial arts, this is a complex and interesting issue. And being married to a ballet teacher, I have maybe a unique perspective. Though ballet and kata require many similar attributes on the part of the performer, the raison d'etre couldn't be ...

Re: omote, ura and henka

Hi MM, kombatan is quite a remove from wado ryu so what made you switch..? oneya This thread seems to be pretty well sidetracked anyway, so... From my late teens to my late thirties I moved around every 2 or 3 years. Most of the time I was in smallish, out of the way places and so I had to pursue m...

Re: Bag?

BOB is a bit beefier than the standard wavemaster, but it too will flex and move around the floor.
