Re: Ohtsuka Jiro
It's amazing how you can see every little detail in his movements. At some points though, it looks like he's rocking in between movements. But I think it may just be the release of the kime that makes it appear that way. Hi Karateman7 I'm not sure what you mean by 'rocking in' but I can guess what ...

Re: Kote Gaeshi
what you are referring to is often called "sankaku" meaning triangle. I always talk about a barchair with 3 'legs'. I wonder why I always tend to talk about a bar.. I must have been watching too much Bas Rutten selfdefense videos.. anyway, sankaku is also used for some shime waza. I think...

Re: syllabus differences
I didn't realise The Academy didnt practice them, never even thought about it. I assumed from the first post they did. But anyway they are good as an inroduction to Wado movement. shep Hi Shep, I think that it has been discussed on the old AKF that like ohyo gumite, sanbon gumite was born from the ...

Re: Kata competion?
Yes. Is it enbu or embu? haha now it is getting off topic, but interesting nevertheless. in the past I was used to empi and embusen. Later on, I understood that "M" does not really exist at the end of a sound. Rather N like san. (although you don't really pronounce san with the N like we ...

Re: Kata competion?
My angle when I was talking about enbu, was that it was non-competitive. People just get up and show, then get off. No judges and the assumption is that this was a solely Wado day not an Open Competition. Hi wadoka, perhaps that was an extent of what I mentioned about dealing with nerves and stress...

Re: syllabus differences
Thanks for the reply Shep. I've been with the Wado academy for a bit now (I'm still at a basic level and knowledge) we haven't done any of these unless I'm missing something subtle?? Hi Jacob, I'm not in Wado Academy, but this is part of the Wadoryu Renmei of Ohtsuka Jiro sensei. I have several DVD...

Re: Kata competion?
Hi all! I am new to this forum, used to read the old one. I guess I will discuss competion Karate most of the time. My first opinion, - Kata-competition is a waste of time - like competing in music, wihch is better, Mozart or AC/DC? KarateREF Excellent theme. Generally I would say that Wado practit...
