Re: Should it be compulsory?

JAPAN does not have enough qualified martial arts instructors? The actual number of deaths of 108 between 1983 and 2009 would tend to bear that out surely. oneya Somehow that does not surprise me especially in relation to Judo. Even in a 26 year period that figure seems high. I wonder what the figu...

Re: Shodan Stories

It was in 1973. I did three kata, two of which they told me to do, and one was my choice. I selected Bassai. I had to perform the first four or five kihon kumite. There was some free kumite--I think we each had to face three people. We had to demonstrate irimi. It is true that it seems like a big de...

I must agree. This kick is, to my way of thinking, not a kick at all, but almost useless flailing of legs. I don't like it at all.

Re: Reading list!

Wado Ryu Karate by Hironori Otsuka comes to mind. A very badly translated book - about a very complex subject...? I love it don't get me wrong - but, save the fact that it was written by Otsuka sensei, it would not be at the top of the list of reading I would give one of my students. Gary That is t...

Re: This makes me angry

Unless they have changed a lot; it does not look like any Wadokai dual language diploma I have ever seen. Also, it says she is honbu cho which makes no sense in the context of the issuing authority and anybody who knows the Wadokai even remotely would know there is no issuing authority outside of To...

Re: Suparenpei

@ shep To state you've known the 15 kata forever is one hell of a statement to make. I guess we should be beating a path to your dojo ;-) Ha ha. Well I must admit you got me on that one. I doubt I really KNOW any kata--maybe niseishi, maybe Pinan yondan, who knows? BUT I have known the movements and...
