Re: Enrolling in Wado Ru coming from Goju Ryu
I figured I'd continue this thread rather than starting a new one. I've been studing Wado with sensei Marsha Ham (not Lam- sorry!) since last Sept. I stepped up training a month ago and go to 2 classes per week and train in between at home. I've been working on Pinan Shodan kata and Oyo #1, as well ...

Re: Which is/are your favourite Kata?
I only know two from Wado but also Gekki sai from Goju. I much prefer the Wado kata though. More useful. Less theoretical. I'm working on Pinan Shodan now. Terrific kata. I'm enjoying trying to master (or get better at) the timing and body mechanics of it all.

Wado training still going strong
Haven't been by this forum for a while (job promotion, lotta work), and my training dipped for a bit while I acclimated to my manager position at my day job. However, I went to class last night and came home totally elated and jazzed. We learned Sanbon Front Kick sets 5 and 6 as well as High Block 2...

Re: We are one year old
Happy B-day! Haven't dropped in a while but my Wado training is going well. Have to thank this forum for its existence and for helping me find a really excellent Wado school up in Ontario. Not only is it great as a karate school but it's the best martial arts school I've ever studied at. Thanks agai...

Re: Which is/are your favourite Kata?
I haven't advanced nearly enough to provide a good objective opinion about this topic but I will say that coming from Goju where there was barely any interaction except for free sparring, I love Sanbon and Oyo sequences. To me, it's the defining characteristic that continues to keep me motivated and...

Re: How has wado changed your life?
I will add something about this- prior to taking karate, I always viewed complications in my life as just that. Now I view them as challenges to meet and resolve. My viewpoint has changed where I am calmer about situations that occur that aren't ideal. I also feel I'm more patient. I see my study of...

Re: How has wado changed your life?
karateman, I feel the same way. I dabbled in various martial arts over the years- Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, Wing Chun, JuJitsu, and Goju Ryu. The Goju karate kept me interested the longest of the bunch and I became more disenchanted with the school rather than the style but I also was odds with some of ...

Passed my grading!
I graded yesterday for my Orange-Black belt (our school has intermediate ranks as opposed to going up a whole belt color). Went very well and I just wanted to thank those of you who have helped me out on my questions I have posed to you over the past few months. We also started learning Pinan Shodan...

Re: Tobikomizuki- my mission
@majin although the explanation is in Dutch, this is an example of what Wadoka is talking about. I'm showing it with Uraken though but the principle is the same http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaZfIItOWJI&t=12s If I'm not mistaken, I believe you've posted something else on YouTube where you're p...

Re: Ouch! Accidents in the dojo
This might be better left to a separate thread but I'm actually amazed at the number of techniques or exercises that result in a junzuki or gyakazuki to the floating ribs. These might not be "kill shots" per se but because of the area that they occupy on the human anatomy, it's evident tha...
