Re: Kata competion?
Hi AJ I hope and think it is the right forum? I am a qualified WKF Karate Referee (Kumite RefA / KataJA) but still have the opinion that it is very, very difficult to judge and compete in Kata across styles like in EKF / WKF. Almost a waste of time, just my opinion. I know Bob agree. KarateREF Hi K...

Re: Kata competion?
Hi KarateREF, edit: sorry karateref, I read it too quickly and guess what you were trying to say. I'm not a fan of kata comp either. However, if you approach it with a 'traditional kata' no music nothing and just do your like a dojo performance there is no harm I guess. Actually, it might be a nice ...

Re: What happens when you start training in a koryu art?
Hi AJ, my question was more to the recognition of where, in the wado ryu system does the concept of body memory encounter anything like an initial kote gaeshi movement. I think it is there if we look for it in the process. A long and current thread on the previous forum expressed our collective lam...

Re: Kote Gaeshi
A question was asked in another thread about when something like kote gaeshi would come into the training timeline. For those that watch the TV programme called "QI" you will know what I mean if the bells start ringing should you answer "Kihon Kumite 5". To profer something to s...

Re: What happens when you start training in a koryu art?
perhaps oneya was trying to link your (kogusoku) stuff up with kote gaeshi taught in wadoryu. I guess our interests in koryu are born from the fact that this a huge part of wado's origin. That said, it might be interesting to reflect your observations to our experiences teaching kote gaeshi. I guess...
Re: oops..!!
ouch, timing was indeed off. However, like wadoka says there is more control over what can and can't be done. I'm enjoying the new format already anyway

Re: Tobikomi zuki-nagashi zuki
Hi AJ, Thanks, what i really should have done first is look through the posts on the other forum and a read through your website. Lesson learned! Hi Ray, you learn quickly ;) hopefully you can manage to get those principles applied quickly in the ever changing situation. Although my answer was quit...

Ohtsuka Jiro

Re: Koshiki No Te
Hi Tim I can only say that it is launched in conjunction with the course, they intend publishing either just one or maybe two a year. Each run will have a very limited number. Its a glossy magazine, I've seen a prototype (if thats the correct term) and its very impressive. The three sensei have arc...

Re: Tobikomi zuki-nagashi zuki
Hi Ray, Welcome to the forum. I hope you can enjoy the discussions. As for my take on your questions, it appears to me that you are mixing up a method and the application of elements/principles contained in those methods. I mean, it sounds like you want to use omote gata directly? @wadoka, I recall ...
