I have one more enquiry- what is the application of this waza? The junzuki is fairly obvious but that pull back that follows it- I'm curious as to what that should be intended for. Is it a grab? A block? Just curious.
Thanks kindly.

Tobikomizuki- my mission
Hi all. I believe that of all the waza that have been the hardest to adjust to since I migrated from Goju to Wado it's this one. The coordinator and body mechanics of this is hard! Either my lead foot is not facing forward or else I'm too high on my junzuki no tsukomi. Don't get me wrong- I totally ...

Re: training journals
I make notes after class. There is so much detail in Wado I like to write it down to encode some of it in my aging brain. I also like to draw basic diagrams or pictures to better capture the motion or arc of something that I might not be able to distill in writing. I find it very good to do this.

Re: "Wado is boring"
I was going to say, that doesn't look like the Wado Ryu I'm learning! If I go to Suzuki sensei's demos on YouYube that's exactly what I'm being taught- though my execution is nowhere near his of course!

Re: Clubs, instructors and dojo approach.
@Tim49: Just to play devil's advocate; do we really have to bridge the cultural divide? I can understand the need to understand the context of the culture so as to understand the why and how of the technical system, as inevitably that has an impact on the way the techniques and kata are performed. ...

Yes, I never even took that into account. I do know some people who have no problem boasting about their accomplishments.

Re: "Wado is boring"
I guess in the end it's what one brings to the table. I find the more I invest the more I get back. Yes, I'm very very green at Wado so I'm still in the honeymoon phase I'm certain.

Re: "Wado is boring"
I just cannot understand how some people would make this particular assertion, especially experienced karateka. To someone green and not having ever studied any martial arts, perhaps they might find it repetitive but with the sanbon sets we do every class, and this is at Orange belt level, how on ea...
