Re: Kihon Kumite 3
I think Gary has touched on something quite important to me personally, I do believe I have learned how to fight through years of tough jiyu kumite and competition. What I find very interesting is that over a period of time your brain, body and karate adapts. Someone you pair up with regularly may w...

Kihon Kumite 3
Apologies if this has been discussed before, but I am curious and couldn't find anything on the search. For reference I have found this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baNukC0NNCw although I am pretty sure you all know what Kihon Kumite No 3 looks like. We were working on Kihons at the club on ...

Re: Hitting Stuff
In my garage, I have a heavy bag, a "bob" and a Wavemaster freestanding kick bag. http://www.boyko-sport.com.ua/images/image4018274021331550183.jpg The Wavemaster is by far the most fun thing to work with. The base is full up with water to stop it moving, but when you hit it hard enough it...

Re: dan grade policy
Surely giving him a white belt would upset him and perhaps be the driving force to him either going to find another club or quitting? Whilst I am not 15 years old, but if this happened to me and someone handed me a whitebelt, my thought process would be, I really dont think I could go through all th...
Re: Sparring
I think that explained it very well. So basically you are saying in a controlled dojo environment, you would fight in a different way to defending yourself on the street. I would say thats probably true of most of us here. However, to keep the discussion going a bit I will use myself as an example. ...

3) Going based on the previous point--if you get one technique in, there is no reason you have to stop at one technique ala Shotokan and most other Okinawan arts I've been exposed to- I hesitate to say wado incorporates the chain method (kung fu) as to not take away from it's own unique approach. O...
