JKF Wadokai Seminar - Manchester
Hi all, Just thought I’d drop a quick few lines in about the course at the weekend with Shimura and Katsube sensei. It was a great course and it was good to hook up at long last with Shep. It’d be interesting to know if there were any other “All Wado” folk there that we weren’t aware of? I couldn’t ...

Re: Gedan Barai
A few years ago my group hosted a course with Arakawa (Toru) sensei. Needless to say it was fantastic, but the one thing that stuck in my mind over the entire course was the third movement in Pinan Nidan (mainly because we spent best part of 2 hours [or at least it seemed] on that one move.) Althoug...

Re: Gedan Barai
Hi Inagokun, In my group, we practice both gedan barai and soto harai uke (or at least what I think you mean by this) against maegeri in our pair work, however as Tim says, the most important bit is how you move your body - not what you are doing with your arms. With reference to the move in Pinan N...

Re: Small details
Hi, My comment was (as Tim says) an enquiry not a suggestion. Technical discussions like this are OK, but with a note of caution me thinks. I used the term the devil is in the detail, and it really is when we talk about Wado. Like many things in our art, there is often more than one reason why somet...

Re: Small details
Hi claas and welcome,
Not to avoid answering you question, but did your think to ask your instructor about this?
As they say, the devil is in the detail.

Re: Kote Gaeshi
As an aside,
I don't know if anyone has a copy of Roberto Danubio's DVDs, but he has included Kote Gaeshi in one of his Ippon Kumite drills.
My point is that clearly, Roberto feels that it is important to include this practice fairly early on also, albeit on a fairly basic level.

Re: Kata competion?
Yes. Is it enbu or embu? haha now it is getting off topic, but interesting nevertheless. in the past I was used to empi and embusen. Later on, I understood that "M" does not really exist at the end of a sound. Rather N like san. (although you don't really pronounce san with the N like we ...
