Re: Moving up in ranks
Belts are just that, belts. A Goju grade can hardly be compared to a Wado grade. A kyu grade in my dojo can hardly be compared to a kyu grade in the next. You may be right that you won't be able to move through the ranks fast in your dojo. It just depends on the criteria for the grades. That said, l...

Re: How long are your lessons?
We do 60 minutes for kids (long enough). For adults there's a session of 60 minutes and 90 minutes (never long enough). And at the moment I train 30 minutes each morning by myself, which is warming up, kata, kihon and stretching all rolled in one. So I tend to work with what I have. The 60 minute tr...

Re: Excited about Sensei Wicks' clinic
Yeah but being critical of the swordsmanship in a Wado tachi tori is like complaining about the popcorn at the movies. The sword is not the showcase. It is not our thing. Our thing is the guy at the wrong end of the sword. Then again, if the popcorn is awful, are you able to enjoy the movie? There'...

Re: Sanbon Jodan Uke #3
are there any really GOOD examples of these and more Wado techniques on say, YouTube? Video is full of pitfalls. 1: Many techniques have to be felt rather than seen in order to understand the experience. 2: Many techniques are so subtle that video won't convey it. 3: Everyone develops in his own pe...

Re: Sanbon Jodan Uke #3
For the sake of worldpeace, let's find a common solution. I propose Tobimonkey Nagashibutt.Gusei21 wrote: You offer your proposal of the name change from Tobikomi Nagashizuki and I will propose monkey butt.
Let's see if any of ours has a chance of acceptance.

Re: Sanbon Jodan Uke #3
Tobikomu means to leap in(dive in). So in theory you can't do nagashizuki unless you leap forward in some fashion. Semantics. Fun, fun, fun.... The way I see it, tobikomizuki is diving in with the intent of diving in and attack head-on. Nagashizuki is also a forward motion, but with the intent of p...

Re: Sanbon Jodan Uke #3
...much to my chagrin and I don't know how it got started but there are people in the Wadokai (I cannot speak for Wadoryu or WIKF because I don't know) calling it Tobikomi Nagashizuki. It's getting even worse. I just received the latest issue of the magazine of the Dutch karate federation. In an ar...
Re: A funny
I remember reading about a 16th century Italian fella who reckoned:‘The great majority of mankind was satisfied with appearances, as though they were realities' To which this 21st century fella may add: The great majority of mankind is satisfied with realities, as if they aren't illusory. But perha...
Re: A funny
Is that all it's about Igor? the way you're perceived by others. I would have thought there was more to it than vanity. It's not about vanity in the first place. It's about perception. And it's not so much about other's perception, as well as your own. A bubble alters your own perception. From with...
