Re: Idori

Hi TSYR, Gusei, So Idori from this viewpoint would be a good theme for a seminar I guess... It was interesting to hear this: "My Sensei says to me all the time that we (wadokai) put our emphasis on karate. We leave the other stuff to Wadoryu. They are the ones who have to deal with Otsuka Sens...

Re: Idori

I find this very interesting. Gusei, I would like to explore a little further some of your observations if possible. II wonder if you could elaborate on your comments that generally the practice of SYR has had no discernable effect on established Wado practitioners, and that benefits only manifest ...

Re: Idori

about the clip from www.natori.co.uk that Wadoka posted Did anyone get that book? I know this guy is pushing ninjas but the guy in the video is Yoshinori Kono. Kono and Kuroda used to be friends and exchanged ideas until they had a falling out. Anyone good enough to sit at the same table with Kuroda...

Re: Idori

I think the best way to put this is as follows: The idori of Wadokai/wadoryu/wikf is good but it does not have the inner dynamics of SYR. Otsuka Sensei's idori has the inner dynamics of SYR. Same with tanto tori. It is just different. If you want to begin to approach the idori and tanto tori of Otsu...

Re: Idori

I was just wondering if someone has trained both wado idori and those similar sitting techniques of SYR ? Some of the techniques can be imagined to be executed with sword also. It makes me feel that some of the techniques originally ( in SYR) included sword. Tenjin shinyo ryu has somewhat similar t...

Re: Kata

Thanks for the post AJ. I hadn't realized you responded. It must have gotten lost in the mad rush of new threads. It's interesting to think about this because there are so many styles with so many variations of kata that I found it hard to believe that, with the utilization of kaisetsu and overall ...

Re: Tetsuzan Kuroda body movement video

There are more of these kind of exersizes to eliminate certain body mechanics forcing one to rely on internal energy. Naka Tatsuya sensei from Shotokan shows some on his DVD http://karate-dvd.sakura.ne.jp/images/dvd/dcmp-222.jpg On his DVD he calls this experiments. In my opinion, it is not really ...

Re: The eyes have it.

AJ, Keith Code gives drills on how to improve your vision on the track - and on the street. How to see multiple things without fixating on one. Kimochi? Yes the Japanese language is what it is but sometimes a cigar is just a cigar... Kimochi just means feeling. And yes...we do think with our heads a...

Re: The eyes have it.

Try reading Twist of the wrist II by Keith Code.
There is a great section on vision that I think directly applies to us.
Any racers out there?
