Re: Training outside federation/sub group

There is always a way. I have met many good friends through travelling and training. Don't let it hold you back. Life is too short. Agreed. If you are confident in what you do why restrict your students from making friends in other groups? In any case, the discerning student will be able to sort th...

Re: Very interesting article by Chris Li on Kakete

I like what you say about vectors.
This rings true with things I've been shown. Add to that the manipulation of the reaction of the opponent and the deliberate limiting of his actions/reaction. (options closing down).

All good stuff.
Good article, very thought provoking.

Re: Curiouser & curiouser.

There are plenty more top quality videos from this association on youtube if anyone is interested. This is one of my particular favourites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0D0EozxjFk&feature=c4-overview&list=UURs2D1PUQihvnTIbEzi0mmg Did that look a bit like Jion in there somewhere? Because ...

No wonder 'comments are disabled for this'.

Re: The Paradox.

Hi Reg, Your comment about the bare Zenic Dojo made me very much think of an experience from last summer, when I had the opportunity to meet up with my old Sensei David Allsop in his Dojo in Mansfield Notts. Lovely to meet David again after all these years and to train in the Dojo I originally start...

Re: The Paradox.

I suspect that the only way to begin to get any kind of understanding is not just to take a deeper look at Japanese culture but to also examine our own culture. It’s a complex one because it’s all wrapped up in traditions that have taken thousands of years to evolve, and largely the two cultures in ...

Re: Can Kata from other systems be Wadoized?

Unless the majority of us can stop stomping around, and I firmly count myself in that, then wadoizing ourselves first is the priority before even thinking of any other kata. The only jiin I would like is with tonic thank you very much. Gordon is right. Maybe we are making an assumption here that ou...

Bob brings up some interesting points; could we perhaps jump this into a new thread?

Re: Interesting demo from John Wicks sensei

Speaking of demos and I know these videos are long but it is interesting for me and poses larger questions. In fairness to JKF Wadokai, these people are from Shintani Wadokai of Canada. First watch the demos. Yes it's hilarious. But then watch the other videos. What do you do? What can you say? The...
