Re: Internal Power

Will look at it again but virtually everything she did reminded me of what people who worked in agriculture and horticulture used to do all day long. Which in a way may say more about modern lifestyles. Tim Shaw Essex UK Absolutely Tim, I spent the 1950s seafaring followed by a few years as stevedo...

Re: Training outside federation/sub group

I think there are probably a few variables to consider here. The loyalty factor has always been stressed in wado ryu’s two way partnership and one could ask one’s self if the relationship with one’s sensei is of any value - unless it is a simply a commercial contract. Why would you expect any sensei...

Re: Wado demo

Oh, with credit where it's due I agree Shep, but I find wado ryu always gives us something 'extra' to strive for so 'perfectly executed' especially in KG gohonme here would be a stretch for me - simply because it leaves me nowhere else to go.

Re: Kihon kumite timing

I found this passage interesting from an interview by Okumura Sensei of Aikido. He trained under Uyeshiba for many years. I find it fascinating because this is what I see in Kihon Kumite. There is in theory sen, sen no sen, go no sen, etc. In traditional kata and in things like kumite gata Otsuka S...

Re: Very interesting article by Chris Li on Kakete

Yes.! There is 'only practice' because it is organic. It is not possible to Google wado ryu and get the definitive answer. :-) but you can be ukemi to Takagi or Suzuki sensei and come away each time with a more profound understanding. The layered notion of wado ryu, in terms of its principles and co...

Suzuki sensei introduced the kakete concept as a 'feint' in his ohyo kumite but went on to caution "A feint is not just a feint."
