Re: Internal Power
From what I’ve seen different teachers access this in different ways. Reading between the lines of what Bob says I see the way different terminology is used when teachers communicate to students. What is interesting to me is the language that is used (Bob touches on this). I feel that I am fortunate...

Re: Moving up in ranks
Good posting Bob. Nice to see the forum kicking into life again. But it does need more people contributing (I’ve just looked at the membership tally – phew!) When you suggest that the higher skill is maybe reserved for the ‘deserving’ and that resentment comes from those who see the door closed in t...

Re: The only things certain in life are death and taxes.
There is a good article on the BBC news site about how the Mandarin is becoming one of the languages of international business. [urlhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-19929620][/url] This is one paragraph that covers what Tim is saying about perception and cultural bias. Why have we managed to get ...

Re: The only things certain in life are death and taxes.
I think this is a complex question. Common sense tells us that nothing’s fixed or ever has been; the nature of all things is change, of course it doesn’t always mean that change is for the better. I think that in some quarters a resistance to the forces of change can betray weakness and insecurity. ...

I suspect this might be about ways of getting down and getting up, not about the sitting per se. Had to change from the method I was originally taught circa 1989.

Re: How long are your lessons?
"Wow, I've run through my lesson plan in 45 mins, what do I do now." Now, I am barely through ido logon , and time is up. Realistically, 15 mins of physical warm up, 20-30 mind of Winona & ido kihon. Then 45 mins of one thing. Done. We need more time. Jay I'm hoping this is a predicti...

90 mins. Tonight; 20 mins warm up inc. ukemi. Split; one group working through a syllabus run through, higher grades working Sanbon Gumite and Kihon 1 & 2. Whole group drills on ashi barai and working kumite coming off the line, then 20 mins kumite. Not the same format every session, just roll i...

I apologize for beating this to death but I reread what I wrote and it just doesn't sound right. We have non native English speakers here not to mention the fact that my comments/sarcasm might be misconstrued so I will take a final crack at this. 1) Wadoryu (the style) is amazing and brilliant. It ...

Hello, A question to ponder. If Ohtsuka taught idori why would he discard the SYR jujutsu principles that were the foundation of their execution? He obviously admired these principles as he inserted them extensively into his expression of karate. There are several possibilities: 1) Ohtsuka taught t...
