(Wado and) Okinawan Karate

Hi, Tried to find a topic for Okinawan Karate, but was not able to do so, scrolling all of the titles. I remember there has been a few threads, but the topic names do not tell too much. :( So I tried to use a label that hopefully describes the topic... Here is a quite good youtube movie about Shorin...

Re: Trying to avoid topic drift so ....

It is natural that Japan will only win so much in judo competition, because it is a wide-spread sport. Sports doesn't care about the fact that judo and budo are Japanese. In sports the rules dictate the training method, instead of the tradition and it's history. Here we have a problem: Competition i...

Re: Pulling the rear leg(junzuki)

Hi, In junzukidachi put skateboards under your feet and see if your stance stays the same, becomes longer or becomes shorter. If the feeling is the same as when it becomes shorter (opposing pulling friction forces), then you really don't need to push at least backward (but probably a little uppward)...

Re: Body Mechanics

Hello everyone, Long time no see... :) From the thread Teaching Wado Ryu? http://www.allwado.com/viewtopic.php?p=4990#p4990 Don't we all have to 'rearrange our balance' before we move? I know I do. The challenge is to do it in the most efficient manner. Any time we are in a 'correct' junzuki stance ...

Re: A reminder on full names & site maitenance this weekend

Hi wadoka, Your decision looks good and fair. I suggest you come back to this thing after a while. The need to fix something depends on if something is broken. I have never decided not to write. I simply haven't been writing. Now that the forum is active I'm happy. Writing is not that important to m...

Re: A reminder on full names & site maitenance this weekend

I'm on my vacation now so writing with this phone is difficult. The main point is quality from quantity. I could ask questions from my friend who have trained Motobu udunti and from others who might be able to put this Okinawan stuff to the right context. Don't talk about fear. You might like eggs. ...

Re: A reminder on full names & site maitenance this weekend

Hi Gusei, The problem is there is not much discussion left here. I agree that not all opinions have merit. They can be as well trashed easily. In this process we have seen some good stuff popping up to the discussion by the ones who know more. What is the function of a forum like this? There might b...

Re: A reminder on full names & site maitenance this weekend

The reason is a gut feeling that I have. I can't be too certain. I have nothing to be afraid of either. The people I train with whom I know are reading the forum knows that claas and me are the same person anyway. But it still has felt like a better thing. I can try to guess, anyhow. On another foru...

Re: A reminder on full names & site maitenance this weekend

Hello everyone, Now that the site has required full name in the signature, I would like to review how we are doing. Was the change for the better or for the worse? In my opinion for the worse. There is less discussion now. The discussion might be of better quality from a relative perspective but in ...

Re: Scorpion Kick

Although it may not be a ‘killing’ method if we attach the context of actual combat, it was used well in the context of the sport. We might deride it, as I have by declaring it a gimmick, however if it is used well is it not as deserving as any other technique in point-style competition? Hi, I hope...
