Re: Suparenpei

Lots of stuff on the AK forum and previous on the Yahoo wado forum if you want to delve into the background TK. Otsuka's connection with supar in pei is all the more interesting because of the question of who he learn it from. The story about him forgetting the kata came from an interview with Tatsu...

Re: Khoji Takamatsu 9th Dan

Well, I guess that would be Jiro Otsuka - Takamatsu is a member of Wadoryu Renmei. He is a graduate of Nodai - Tokyo Agricultural Univ, one of the original Wado dojo. I think he went to Brazil as part of the Japanese government agricultural programme rather than as a professional karate instructor.I...

Re: Changes in kata

[ Perhaps I first need to clarify that my previous comments were of a general nature because San no Ya doesn't have a voice in WIKF future, my comment was simply addressing the problems of the group that survives the death of a sensei. In this case He was our sensei and the WIKF sensei and in some ...

Re: Changes in kata

Its interesting that Wado Kai seem to have a higher regard to the Wado Ryu Renmei Dan grades than WIKF. Any reason why this is? I wouldn't read quite so much in to it. Renmei exists as an organisation in Japan whereas WIKF doesn't. Although the numbers are few now, there are still people within bot...

Re: Changes in kata

Up until recently Suzuki Hanshi’s wado kokusai held its share of trenchant loyalty and development through close to half a century of glorious autocracy which has sustained throughout his tragic loss and inevitable soul searching. It is at the crossroad still where any technical skill will need to ...

Re: Changes in kata

Change in kata isn't necessarily always a bad thing is it? Perhaps it is better to understand the rationale of the change first and then decide. Of course the ability of the person(s) who has made that change must be a factor. If we look at one example, seishan open hands part, one hand makes a draw...

Re: JKF Wadokai Seminar - Manchester 2012

The Friday evening session is now fully allocated so there are only spaces available to join the Saturday or Sunday sessions.

We will keep a reserve list in case any spaces become available.

Re: Fighting to learn peace

With regard to whether people train hard enough these days, isn't that something every generation seems to think? [Edit. Removed my reference to the Lowry article - it was about a slightly different topic to how I had recalled it]. If you have Nishiyama and Brown's karate book, you'll find that they...
