Re: Can Kata from other systems be Wadoized?

wadoizing ourselves first is the priority. As your guvnor once gently reminded me Gordon this is a very long process though. All that stretching, smoothing and shaping our physical self to be more encompassing when working for that fluid and seamless motion in the process of wado ryu takes a while....

Re: Interesting demo from John Wicks sensei

Well they're probably not 'fixable' and may well argue the geta is on the other foot I reckon, mainly because they don't have eyes to see. There would be too many who were taught by wandering apostates who didn't quite smooth out the joints in their lumpy fabric drawn down from other lesser gods. So...

$30k each, which, of course, means they're also used for breeding stock.
Does this mean we can breed our own sensei..?

I think I've just uttered the salient verb...?

Re: Can Kata from other systems be Wadoized?

Given that a pastiche is meant to 'celebrate' a former work by another artist I doubt very much that this was Sakagami sensei's intention Tim and certainly it wouldn't be a parody because it would reflect badly for any Wado nature. I would tend to agree with Bob because it certainly looks like a wor...

Re: Sente

it was hard to get rid of the habit of “Sen-no-sen
One we 'know' something it is not possible to not know it but if we also know that the 'human factor' will very often make something more than the sum of its parts we can still move.

Re: Interesting demo from John Wicks sensei

Hi Toby, the more I dwell on the old Meijin’s “There is only practice” the clearer the wado ryu landscape shows a traditional nexus with philosophical corollaries in Iaido and Kyudo intent as well as its rustic Okinawan utility. What becomes clearer also is the notion of 'winning' at these levels is...

Re: Interesting demo from John Wicks sensei

Seems to me that integrity by example is the prime requisite for public demonstrations, especially kihon kumite, kumite gata, tanto dori or Shinken Shirahadori or what is the point. Anyone attempting a public demonstration raises the ante when placing this integrity in the public gaze where he can s...

Re: Internal Power

Hi Bob, it's that language and translation thing all over again: Many people understand kihon waza to mean 'basic technique' rather than 'fundamental to technique' so it becomes general rather than specific and their house is built on sand rather than rock. Ohtuka meijin is always quoted as saying: ...

Re: The future of Wado ryu

No worries Martin, I wasn’t accusing. I was just trying to widen the scope of your query. It’s a valid question and I’m sure it has crossed many a mind as we get further away from the lineage and legacy of Wado ryu. Part of that problem will surely be all the organisations that think they are teachi...
