Re: Wado Myths

.

So, if we add the penguin flapping bow and the Belgrade yoi to the Rei pandemic at tournaments we arrive at Gary's performance based showtime to impress the officials and various suits who wrote the menu but didn't prepare the meal..??

And people think this is wado ryu..??

Re: Wado Myths

karateman7, open source of information - I like that. I think it is true that we can say 'Those who want to see the light will see it.' But as some of us have on various forums, tried to give some light, there are those that have invested so much who won't try and look, there are those won't believ...

The simple act of bowing and taking yoi can be done so badly at times. Well he struggled with the concept of intent at first but he turned out to be the perfect s...

Re: Wado Myths

I'm with you totally on that one wadoka, also the slapping of the sides of their thighs when they perform the bow. Argh!!! Do people still do that Shep? I haven't seen that in ages. Tim Nidan from the UK walked into the dojo where I was teaching last week and did just that Tim. He wasn't a wado lit...

Re: Weights

HI Andy,

If trimming the weight is your intent then low weights and high reps is the way to go. It is simple to see when we look at weight lifting as a sport, there are very few heavy lifters that have the ripped six pack of the weight training enthusiast.

Re: Wado Myths

Hi Ben,

this is old wado ryu lore from the sixties... one point of it being: you need to understand the wado posture intrinsic in wado movement and have total control over your body before you can have any control over the opponent's body.

Re: Wado Myths

As in all cultures and subcultures, there are myths. I remember from the previous forums there was discussion on the teachings that were misinterpreted and passed down on the line (language?). I thought it'd be interesting to list and talk about these. It's such a shame for people who are totally i...

Re: Wado Myths

I have seen people on other forums tie themselves in knots trying to discuss the physics of a karate punching action. I can’t see the point of looking at it in that way (Shotokan guys like this way of thinking). Honestly how do people think punching is applied in Wado? There has to be intelligent a...
