Re: Shodan Training
Hi Guys, Just thought I would update my thread. Today I took my 1st Dan and I passed it. This has been a long hard journey, but now feels so worth it. I am exhausted, going to enjoy a nice takeaway with my Wife tonight to celebrate. Here is a picture of me with my Sensei, Les Birkin. http://colchest...

Re: over coming tenseness!
Couple of things that helped me...
Dont keep your fists so tight, obviously they need to be closed, but they dont need to be causing your arm muscles to tense.
Your body should only tense on impact of the technique, not all the way through.
Try to aim for sharpness rather than power

Shodan Training
Hi Guys, I am taking my black belt grading in just under three weeks and have been increasing my training (karate and fitness) over the last few months, to what is now pretty much doing something every day. This is the fittest I have been in a long time and I am really enjoying it. I thought it migh...

Re: Outdoor training
Last weekend our club was at Saxmundham for a camping / training weekend. We do two of these every year, but I see this as quite different to running through a town centre in a Gi. I would guess its asking for trouble running past pubs etc. Having said that, we were taken outside of the leisure cent...

Re: Wado Myth: Where and Why do I have to kiai in kata?
In my simple head, I came to my own conclusion, I saw the kiai as a tool to deliver the strength within the technique as generally its a finishing blow. As a technique to finish an opponent requires more power, then you can also be more open and so the kiai allows you to tense your body/muscles on i...

Hi Wadoka,
Just a suggestion, but with most forums I visit, when clicking on links, it opens them in a new window. This is quite nice as you dont lose where you were on this forum after navigating away.
Might be worth looking into when you have the bonnet up next.

There's a kids tv programme that reminds me of this. I cant remember what its called, but they line up the family and the first kid reads on a card what they have to draw. There are sliding doors between each family member and one at a time, they draw the object to the neigbour, only the direct neig...

Re: Weights
Thanks very much for the help and advice offered here guys.
I have been a member of gyms in the past and can still remember a lot of things about it. Have ordered a weight bench and some weights, just waiting for them to arrive.

Re: WKF competition footage
I have watched that fight before and agree its a good one. But in my opinion that kick did not have the potential to do damage and I wouldn't have thought it would score. But then again, I am not a world class judge :)
