Re: Metal Tanto with Scabbard
Hi Shep, I remember the thread. Gordon (I think) was looking for a tanto with a natural wood saya. I have one, but it was a gift from a Japanese instructor who stayed with me. I have tried to find a UK / net supplier but cannot. Quentin Balls Nine Circles have a few but they are still quite pricey. ...

Re: Tetsuzan Kuroda body movement video
Hi AJ, I would say the first version is easier (again if you know how to do it). It's all about "washing the face" as Hakoishi sensei would say ie the upward movement of the hand close to the face. In Diato ryu they referred to the movement of the hands as "morning glory flower" ...

Re: Tetsuzan Kuroda body movement video
Hi MF It's a small thing but If its purpose is to work towards an integrated body moving as a complete unit, you might be better off thinking of the practice as movement or exercises rather than techniques if you are going to work on understanding how a connected body works. oneya Hi Reg, Yes, I un...

Re: Tetsuzan Kuroda body movement video
Quality find Gordon. I am a big fan of Kuroda sensei, but.... Whilst I appreciate that there are some great body mechanics and timing going on here, there is also a lot of "compliancy". One of the things we get chastised for in my dojo is “dying” too easily. Takes the reality out of things...

Re: Kette Junzuki
As I understand it, "kette" (in this respect) is a compounding of the words "Keri" to kick and "te" hand - together = to kick/punch as a combination. What you do at the end of the kick depends on what you have planned next. A more fluid transition between kick and punch...

Re: Conditioning
Let me also come at it from another angle. Most of us agree that Wado is more than the sum of the kicking and punching parts, however it seems to me at least that although my training has allowed me to look beyond that (and realise the difference), from a conditioning aspect it has been geared arrou...

Re: Conditioning
For me it depends on what type of JuJitsu. though i dont practice bjj i do practice judo and ne-waza randori is very similar to bjj, a few bouts with other dan grades is very draining, its full on all the time, with no chance of a rest, relax your grip or you mind for a second and the mistake is pu...

Conditioning
Admittedly, I don’t train as much these days as I should, but when I do – I usually cope fairly well in terms of fitness levels and conditioning (although I take longer to recover these days particularly if it has been a very physical session lol). However, training Jujutsu is a completely different...

Re: Takashima Sensei in UK
I asked the question as he was accompanying Shiomitsu Sensei (and that's where the Renmei comes in). I see. I always had the impression that Takashima was a bit agnostic about the organisations. In fact, he said in the interview: "But even though we may be slightly different, it is fundamental...

Re: Takashima Sensei in UK
It says in the article that he is a member of the JKF and JKF Wadokai technical committee? Is he a member of both Wadokai and Wado-ryu Renmei? The interview was conducted some 10 years ago (how time flies!) So I'm not sure if he's still on the technical committee. Gusei21 should know... But in any ...
