Re: Gedan Barai
Hi all, i was practicing Pinan Nidan lately, and i wondered why is in kata Gedan barai the preferred technique against maegeri. While in sanbon kumite the most used technique is Soto harai uke. What is your experience regarding this subject? Inakogun Hi Inagokun Not sure what you are saying here. T...

Re: syllabus differences
Hi, Mr Sakagami’s Aiwakai doesn’t have Sanbon or Oyho Gumite in the syllabus just Kihon and Kumite Gata. The Dojo I’m connected to used to be affiliated to Mr Suzuki so originally we did learn the Sanbon and Oyho’s and we still use them as training drills, the Oyho’s are especially good for Dojo sp...

Re: kuzushi waza
I was practicing Ohyo Gumite No.8 the other night and after the back kick I was practicing placing my kicking leg both on the inside and outside of my opponent's lead leg. Placing it on the inside gives an ideal opportunity to unbalance their lead leg. It is shown and described this way in Suzuki's...

Re: kuzushi waza
Kuzushi is much more all encompassing than might be thought by people looking at it from the outside. Conversely I think sometimes when we find ourselves wrestling with Japanese technical terminology we have a tendency to move the concept away from the practical end of the spectrum and further along...

Re: Small details
Hi guys, I think a lot of people will be put off posing a question if the answer is going to be ‘ask your instructor’. After all what would be the point having a forum if this was the case? Thanks, DJ Hi Craven, (I wonder if you are the same DJ I know from up that part of the world?) I think Gary w...

Re: Small details
Hi claas and welcome, Not to avoid answering you question, but did your think to ask your instructor about this? As they say, the devil is in the detail. Gary I agree with Gary on this. It is a very good question. If you know your Wado you already know the answer. But your instructor could set it y...

Re: Kata competion?
Ah, right, I understand now, bit like a kind of demo.wadoka wrote:My angle when I was talking about enbu, was that it was non-competitive.
People just get up and show, then get off. No judges and the assumption is that this was a solely Wado day not an Open Competition.
