Re: Does the solo kata warrant the attention it receives?

Purely for myself, most of the emphasis in the solo kata has been on correct movement, and correct body/muscular development. I have never had a Japanese sensei put any emphasis at all on application, directly from the solo kata, except as a visual, or mental tool, to get the student to move correct...

Re: Maegeri - mawashigeri

I have some video (Super VHS) of Shiomitsu sensei teaching mawashi geri in my dojo around '95. Coming from my background at the time, I didn't think his method could have much on it, what with the hip not rolling over at all. Then he hit me while free moving later that night. I pulled myself off the...

Mr. Nash,

Funny enough I just had the exact conversation last night about Tyrone and Mr. Balingit beimg clones of their teachers. Scary when you watch it.

Re: Information

This video is of Tyrone Pardue. Tyrone is in Boston now, but was recently living in Florida. Tyrone was raised in Ireland, and is a senior member of Shiomitsu sensei's Wado Academy.

He is also a member of this forum.

Competition Kata

So, this was posted on a public site, therefore I assume it is ok for discussion. The young man here is performing Wado Kushanku, obviously "jazzed up" for competition. My question to the forum is: How much "jazzing up" it too much? https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=7766101090...

Hmmm... that hand speed in the third clip looks familiar. Now where have I seen that?

Re: Hitting Stuff

Mr. Nash, Many is the time, when we were all learning to walk, that you would finish a session by saying, "Okay, now go hit some stuff and figure it out." What does Takagi sensei say about makiwara and the like. I don't recall seeing anyone at Takagi dojo using anything other than mitts as...

Re: Hitting Stuff

Thanks for the responses gentlemen. Arturo - I agree about the workout. I still like the heavy, for sweating, and certain weight transfer drills. Tim - "mindless" anything is bad, right? Until, of course, you are doing 'without mind". Ha! Just rambling thoughts. I remember being told,...
