Re: How's training going and why is it so silent here?

Now I am following two international Wado-groups on facebook, one of them very good and valuable and the other a little bit too much of a bashing site. But would definitely say, facebook groups like these have a lot of the discussions we should have (had) here. What I like about the better group, is...

Re: How's training going and why is it so silent here?

This forum is dead and it got killed by forcing people to use their actual names. I personally was against this, but that is not important. It could've gone another way. But now what? Last, anyone said anything, was last year and we're mid-year. How do we continue or should we just go facebook? Pers...

Re: Does the solo kata warrant the attention it receives?

It is great to have discussion going on again. What Gary says looks promising, but I have some questions and I hope this doesn't look like too much questioning. The unfortunate nature of forum discussion is that what everyone agrees on is already established, when anyone says it and so the future of...

Re: Does the solo kata warrant the attention it receives?

Is a process of partial fusion of old arts and refinement for a modern age really even a question of genus? The hybrid of course has elements of all of its historical sources and if it has merit, its nature probably reflects the ideas of the founder the most. Many karate practitioners have noticed t...

Re: Does the solo kata warrant the attention it receives?

I haven't studied Okinawan karate, but my impression is that in the original approach a kata is a curriculum and the solo form of it a performance that has many functions in itself plus a way of making a list of the movements. In Wado they aren't a curriculum but instead parts of the whole Wado curr...

Re: Does the solo kata warrant the attention it receives?

When applying, usually something is altered, added or removed. The first movement of Pinan nidan is an example of exaggerated motions for principle training. The body must open a lot, hikite is used, an exaggerated stance is used... Two different applications would be something that is directed more...

Re: Does the solo kata warrant the attention it receives?

I am very often speculating that if Otsuka sensei had had more time, the solo katas might have been totally reconstructed. I guess he saw a lot of value in walking different directions and making holes in the air, but not in the same way as the Okinawans. Still the forms are in some way the same, li...

Re: How's training going and why is it so silent here?

Hi Tony and welcome aboard! On forums people either contribute or they make others contribute (by being wrong on the internet, lol) or then they just mess something up, regardless of their knowledge. The latter part referring to difficulties in communication. Out of the seinsei I have trained with, ...

How's training going and why is it so silent here?

Hi! Hasn't been much conversation here lately. I wonder why... Has everyone reached some kind of point where writing on a forum doesn't give anything for you? Have noticed some improvements in the European scene at least within Wadokai. People have a lot better networks than, let's say, ten years ag...

Re: Are Kihon Kumites just examples that show us how we should analyze wado katas?

Now I've got to ask if this is giving any thoughts to Juha? Answers or did we miss the question completely?

Like we say in Finnish: Missä mennään? :)
