Re: Does anyone else play golf?
Hi Gordon, I have about $2000 worth of gold equipment (my son used to work in the industry ) in my garage. I used to have a Dunes membership a bit further down the Mornington Peninsula and played a couple of times each week and enjoyed it. Golf and wado have many similarities, what happens to the ba...

Re: New Wado Kata Bunkai Book
Hi, The quote is a little grist from an longer article with aspirations Ken, again though, as I ruminate on it sitting up there alongside Bob’s post, I realise its Wado ryu nature and purpose is the same as Budo sports for a while - perhaps until it brings a little enlightenment as its sport aspect ...

Re: New Wado Kata Book
While we're talking of Shiai Bob, here a quote that may restore a little harmony to this thread. The practice of Shiai is the aspect of wado ryu where Ohtsuka Hironori meijin presents its public face on the international stage. In doing so, he demonstrates its case for assuaging the aggressive aspec...

Re: New Wado Kata Bunkai Book
Ah, I think you have me wrong here Jim, I don’t object to bunkai even though it is largely irrelevant in the Wado ryu. What I object to is the fanciful home made variety being sold as Wado ryu when Wado ryu have very efficient and ongoing analytical systems in place already. As for close quarter fig...

Re: New Wado Kata Bunkai Book
And to follow the argument to a logical conclusion, presumably drop the kata altogether and move towards a purely Shindo yoshin ryu koryu art. I imagine that Otsuka included the kata in Wadoryu as he saw some value and, as his grandson says, that part of that value was to match the movements to juj...

Re: New Wado Kata Bunkai Book
Hi, I guess if you train on many multi-style and multi-art course each year Jim you would surely expect the bunkai to be homogeneous or perhaps generic. Seems to me that bunkai was never a Wado ryu issue in the early days because of Ohtsuka meijin's koryu history which reflected the form or shape an...

Re: New Wado Kata Bunkai Book
Hi Jim, I don't think I have seen much evidence of a 'current trend' in bunkai around? Certainly not for Wado ryu anyway, in fact many practitioners would argue Wado ryu doesn't have bunkai at all but tend to favour kaisetsu analysis which copes with Ohtsuka meijin's koryu lineage and his visionary ...

Re: Fudoshin Fudomyoo Fudodachi Fudosan
Ah Bob, I am not disputing the Chinese influence, I only raised a tentative eyebrow when Mr Harden drew his line in the sand at China when there is ample evidence of a progenitorial Buddhist influence wandering in from the Indian subcontinent and being instrumental in shaping the Shaolin Temple’s le...
