Re: Great book
Hi, on the subject of hikite in shotokan... the literal "pulling hand" as it was explained to me has been misunderstood and mistaught for a generation. Wado doesn't seem to use the practice so much but what it should actually be is a grab and pull as is evidenced a lot clearer in basic goj...

Re: dan grade policy
I would say the problem is that gradings aren't objective. They're subjective depending on the dojo/asociation head. If they were truly objective then one could transfer from dojo to dojo and be at the exact same level as the same grade in a different dojo. It's a problem that most martial arts styl...

Re: Reading list!
Thank you for all suggestions. I think I've sourced a couple of these books but I've taken onboard the suggestions about following my new associations practices first.

Re: Reading list!
Fair enough. I stand corrected. The point I was making about dogma not purely in relation to martial arts is sometimes intelligent well meaning people sometimes leave reason at the door and what is patently wrong or untrue is accepted as fact because a senior says it's so. That is dogma at it's wors...

Re: Reading list!
Dogma is the established belief or doctrine held by a religion, or a particular group or organization.[1] It is authoritative and not to be disputed, doubted, or diverged from, by the practitioners or believers. Although it generally refers to religious beliefs that are accepted without reason or ev...

Re: Reading list!
I've asked in the dojo and was recommended the kata book for gradings by another student but the club/ facebook line seems to be that the ascoiation dvds are all we need. Fair enough really but i like to get a little more depth and read around it. I think whether the club is sports orientated or not...

Re: Reading list!
Hi Gary, the local association is Doug James' Chojinkai. It seems to be the biggest in the North East and the people I've met seem pleasant and have a professional attitude to teaching. Didn't mean to sound arrogant about dogma, it's just I've always been taught to question everyhting before :)

Reading list!
I'm new to Wado. I've converted from shotokan/goju and like the club i've joined. it's more family friendly and they train hard and have an association head who has trained since the 70's. I have karate katas by shingo ohgami and a couple of obligatory dvds by the association. I always find that it ...

Re: New WadoPedia section
I've never had any problems. I thought that the question was being misunderstood and that it was going off on a tangent. I didn't realise that there was "history" regading DKC's previous posts. My mistake. Sorry.
