Re: Vertical punches in Wado?

No need to wonder, just assume that I never spend the time to put any reasoning into it.:) Its not a matter of meaning, it's of sounding what is pidgin as it is pronounced.

Re: Vertical punches in Wado?

Sorry, my pidgin Japanese, English writing. I must have been thinking about yaki-soba.:) But, you know, there is no wrong spelling of Romanji (I think), just less conventional, which has somewhat to do with my Pinan Nidan topic.

Re: Vertical punches in Wado?

The issue of when to turn the fist is symptomatic of human nature to find "a way", when "the way", more then one, may be preferable. My teacher's preference was to begin the rotation as soon as the elbow touched the side of the body. A longer, twisting action then the "natur...

Re: Vertical punches in Wado?

Unless you make a proper fist, there always is a chance of damaging the thumb when strikinng in any manner. I fight with tate zuki, but not intentionally. Perhaps it's because in kumite, my strikes are rarely fully extended.

Re: George Herriman's Art

Absolutely, but what is life without art? Herriman
died in 1944, the background in his strips often
changed with each frame, perhaps suggesting the
chaos beneath the placid veneer of his world.

Re: One to make your eyes water Oneya

The wine may be lost, but you can bet the seller's shipment was insured. Did you see the car that knocked over a Tour de France rider? It was stop, hit one rider (and have all the bikes behind crash into the car), or hit a tree with the same result. I understand there is no one sympathetic with the ...

Re: Shiomitsu Demo Defending Mawashigeri

It was only after I animated this technique, that I notice that Shiomitsu intercepts the kick while the leg is still bent (muting the kick), and that it is his forward motion that initially unbalances the kicker. Martial arts training involves stumbling through, and learning a technique by persevera...

Re: Suzuki sensei passed away

My condolences to his family, friends, and students. In the 60s he came to Hawaii. I am sorry that I failed to meet him at that time. There are only left, an handful of first generation Japanese instructors who left Japan to teach karate overseas alive today.

Re: Shiomitsu Demo Defending Jodanzuki

shep, Sorry about the confusion, but why do you ask? Are you a member of Shiomitsu' organization, or thinking of joining him?-) Just to be clear, while I graded Shodan in 1966 with Wado-kai (at a time when it was still under Ohtsuka), I currently have no affiliation with any Wado, or Shiomitsu Sense...
