Re: Wado, budo, self-defence.... What's it all about?

Ah, is this the ghost of Acer past complaining about hooks that pass in the night Igor..? I hope not... Strangely though, I know that if you do practice this keiko ( 稽古) my earache will eventually go away. Rest assured that I'm still working on it and perhaps one day it will relieve you of your ear...

Re: Wado, budo, self-defence.... What's it all about?

Thanks, Lasse, for your thoughts and some good points. Obviously, it's not as if I have all the answers. I'm still trying to figure it all out. Von Clausewits stated that war is the continuation of politics by other means. By the same token, one could argue that a physical fight is the continuation ...

Re: Wado in Russia (Академия единоборств)

I haven't been around this forum for a while. I couldn't resist this topic... I find it slightly hilarious to see how a couple of grown men seriously discuss the pros and cons of the different martial arts on TV. Then again, it's no more hilarious than a couple of grown men discussing the latest foo...

If anyone is interested, the wadoworld.com domain will become available within a few days. I owned it till now. But because the site closed down, I'm letting the domain expire. Perhaps someone else can put it to good use...

Re: Internal Power

Is it my imagination or are you turning into a troll?. Bob, I don't want to be a pain in the ass, but you're kind of proving my point. Years ago I got kicked off the karate forum on 24fightingchickens.com. Not a huge loss, but an interesting experience. The owner, Rob Redmond, kicked me off that fo...

Indeed.
I strongly believe that (and experienced it!), else I'd never bother to put in all the hours...

Re: Internal Power

Belief is not necessary for wado ryu to worka You're right, it isn't. Yet • We believe Otsuka sensei was great martial artist. Even if hardly anyone had the chance to test that. • We believe we will get better when practicing kihon diligently. But at the beginning, we only have sensei's word for it...

Re: Internal Power

Internal Delusion. Dillman at his finest. The takeway: Before engaging in a fight, you should always first ask if the other guy believes in your power. Which is why I wind up running away so often. ;-) Humor aside, I find the case of Dillman interesting because it shows how willing people are to be...

Re: Internal Power

PS, for driving objects through wood with his bare hands, read up on Joseph Greenstein 1893 - 1977 'The Mighty Atom'. Greenstein was 5' 4" and 140 lbs. No Chi needed for this guy. Fascinating... I wouldn't jump to conclusions regarding the Chi part though. It appears ol' Joe had training in ju...
