Re: Spammers and countermeasures

I've installed some code on my servers that blocks the IP address of anyone that goes to a particular folder. The robots.txt file tells search engine spiders to not go to that folder, if the robots.txt file is ignored (which spammers do) they are blocked completely from the site. The blocking is ach...

Re: Karate for young children

I don't think there's anything wrong with Children doing karate, in fact I think it can be great! If a child has met the grading syllabus for a particular style/association then they have earned the belt. The quality of that assessment/syllabus is a different issue. In our association the syllabus i...

Re: Help understanding Kime

Same as Gary; I know 24 Fighting chickens is a Shotokan site, the article was posted for interesting reading and in particular the science side of things.

Many of the issue Rob Redmond tackles can also be found in Wado dojos - the site is worth exploring if you have a quiet lunch time in the office.

Re: Help understanding Kime

and here's an interesting 'physics' explanation http://www.24fightingchickens.com/2005/12/01/kime-the-myth-of-focus/ After years of believing that if I tensed on impact my punch would be stronger, I have learned the hard way that it is not. Efforts to prove otherwise only showed me the depth of my f...

Re: Ukemi

I remember when I first started we used to get the mats out around once a month for some break falling training, but that was a particular dojo and with a particular Sensei. The training was very similar to the type of training I carried out in Judo as a child. Starting with falling backwards from a...

Re: Insurance claims

Just a note in general.. When I started my Dojo people encouraged me to arrange some kind of insurance so I did. It is not mandatory by law. After a few years I found that I didn't need it, so I cancelled it. Our Dojo uses a subscription form which also contains a line that they do not hold our Doj...

Re: over coming tenseness!

I'm often repramanded for being tense also - For me it is in the shoulders and it is a habit that creeps in. For me I find it helpful to tense up even more and then relax. (If my tenseness was on a scale, and set at 7, I tense to 9 and then it feels easier to relax to 5.) I'm sure I've read about a ...
