Klemola's 36 Kumite Gata's e-book
Re: Klemola's 36 Kumite Gata's e-book
Thanks for the link Shep.
What surprised me about it was that there were no references. I know I'm a bit of a stickler for these things but I really would have expected to see some, particularly for something that looks like an academic piece. I found myself crestfallen at the blankness of the final pages.

Not to comment about the content of Klemola's work - as I haven't trained Kumite Gata (officially), but does anyone know where/who he learnt it from?

A quote from page "x" of the book: " This book is a reconstruction of Hironori Ohtsuga’s genious method based on the authors research and 40 years experience in Wadoryu karate. I think the point here is that it is sort of impossible to learn this stuff from looking at videos or independent research. There is so much stuff happening below the surface that requires an instructor.
So 40 years of experience is meaningless. All the research in the world is worthless. Having a teacher who knows...priceless!

I understand that, Gusei. I was trying to answer the question of where it came from.
A quote from the very first paragraph in the download:
"You cannot understand the most subtle techniques thorough the book alone. You have to find a teacher who can show you."
To further understand how Mr. Klemola came up with what is in the book, search the internet for, "Kumite gata and the essence of Wado (Part 1)", by Timo Klemola. He lays out where he got the ideas, etc. from.

I can't seem to find the Part 1, I wanted to double check to make sure.mspain wrote:To further understand how Mr. Klemola came up with what is in the book, search the internet for, "Kumite gata and the essence of Wado (Part 1)", by Timo Klemola. He lays out where he got the ideas, etc. from.

I've found the other articles but No.1 seems to be missing. Any chance of a link Mike?

Were these techniques not widely trained in the Wadoryu group in Finland under Mr Ogata?mspain wrote:A quote from page "x" of the book: " This book is a reconstruction of Hironori Ohtsuga’s genious method based on the authors research and 40 years experience in Wadoryu karate.
