Re: Bushinkai Wado-ryu?

Hi Sergie, Bushinkai is a real Wado organization. And Sakura Sensei was a contemporary of Suzuki Sensei and they were good friends. You can't judge a whole organization by one man. What you see on the video is not Wado but Manaka-ryu which is an aiki jujitsu that Nakamura does outside of Wado. So i...

Appreciate the answers, but I think I've seen all I've needed.

Re: Information

Thanks all. I didn't intend any sort of negative ideas or thoughts on the videos. I just didn't want to go in with any bias. I definitely agree with everyone.

Information

Has anyone heard of the man in this video? I am unable to form an opinion.

Edit: Video states he is a student of Shiomitsu Sensei, so I go in with the idea that everything he does should and is right. Just not sure what the overall consensus is.

Training outside federation/sub group

Hello, I am curious as to everyone's thoughts since many of the members have gone through the splits in Wado. I am really interested in travelling and training in various wado dojo in the world. Training in one dojo (different federation but still part of one of the big 3) in particular has caused s...

Bushinkai Wado-ryu?

Hello, Does anyone know anything about organization? It's extremely difficult to find any on the internet, which kind of raises a red flag for me. I know (or have been told) that Kazuo Sakura (I'm assuming the instructor Cecil T. Patterson trained with in Japan) started this group after the split. T...

Re: Sparring

Sorry for the late response. So many good things to talk about, though. AJ--yes, I was referring to jiyu kumite. Most of the times, I think I am watching training for shiai tournament. I don't think there is nothing wrong with this because as mentioned it is a good learning tool for maai. The proble...

Sparring

Not sure if this would work, but this may be one for the "Wadopedia" section. From what sparring I've seen in wado, it seems that many people incorporate the linear attack and retreat method for sparring. I've been taught four things when it comes to sparring: 1) You're always pressing you...

Interesting Article

Not sure where he trained, but combining this with an interview with Otsuka II where he said something about wado being to sport-oriented in Japan, I wonder how much he says is a matter of personal experience vs. what's really out there. A Karate Odyssey: An Interview with Sensei Pat Nakata (Classic...
